RedHawks add former major leaguer Cruz

FARGO – The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks signed infielder Enrique Cruz for the upcoming season, according to a news release Tuesday.

Cruz, 30, batted .361 with 14 homers and 66 RBIs in 85 games for the Edmonton Capitals of the North American League last season. He helped lead the Capitals to the league championship.

Cruz played 60 games for the Milwaukee Brewers in 2003 as a middle infielder. He also had one big league at-bat with the Cincinnati Reds in 2007.

In 72 big league at-bats, Cruz had six hits and two RBIs.

“We really like the flexibility Enrique gives us around the field,” RedHawks manager Doug Simunic said in the release. “He can play third, second or shortstop, and he’s a professional hitter who’s had success at the highest levels. He’s an interesting player to bring into the mix.”
