Taking on mental health: HPD sees increase in number of suicide and mental health crisis calls

One-hundred times a month, officers in the Hastings Police Department are called to homes here on the report of suicides, attempted suicides and mental health crises. It’s a sobering total, and it’s on the rise, according to Hastings Chief of Police Paul Schnell.
