State run ends with double-overtime loss to New Ulm

MINNEAPOLIS - The Class 1A state girls’ hockey tournament was a positive first-time experience for the Detroit Lakes girls’ hockey team, but it eventually ended with their longest game of the season. The Lakers went out kicking and screaming, but they couldn’t stop the inevitable of being eliminated from their first state appearance, losing to New Ulm 5-4 in double overtime in the consolation semifinals Thursday inside Ridder Arena at the University of Minnesota.
