45 cattle producers accept buyout

Minnesota officials say 45 cattle producers in northwestern Minnesota have accepted the new herd buyout in the latest salvo in the state’s fight against a small outbreak of bovine tuberculosis that already is costing the cattle industry. The legislature this spring quickly passed the buyout provision to pay producers a $500 bonus per animal for selling off their entire herds as a way to eradicate any possible bovine TB in the region.Word count: 839
