Published 03/16/2007, Herald Staff Writer

Gov. John Hoeven named Grand Forks banker Duaine Espegard to the State Board of Higher Education on Friday. Espegard retired in 2003 as chief executive officer of Bremer Financial in Grand Forks. He was elected to the North Dakota Senate as a Republican in 2000. He served on the Industry, Business and Labor Committee and was a chief sponsor of the state's Centers of Excellence Bill, which provided $20 million last session for university projects that benefit economic development in the state. He lost his bid for reelection in November to Democrat JoNell Bakke.
