Last week, I explained how the severe winter 10 years ago hurt North Dakota's resident wildlife, particularly pronghorn, deer and upland game. It also was a challenge for humans, but the record snowfall and cold during the winter of 1996-97 was nothing compared with what the state's citizens would have to deal with when the snow began to melt.Word count: 799
