Minnesota same-sex marriage: Grand Forks couple will be first to marry in Polk County

At the stroke of midnight on Thursday, Aug. 1, Minnesota will cross a historic threshold, allowing same-sex couples to marry for the first time. The state joins a succession of other states, including neighboring Iowa, to do so. The Herald visited with the first same-sex couple to get a marriage license in Polk County, a gay rights advocate, religious figures on both sides of the issue and a county official who will be conducting marriages to hear their feelings on gay marriage.
