Mandan, N.D., USDA lab celebrates century of research

The Northern Great Plains Research Laboratory is celebrating its 100th anniversary this summer. In its early days, it focused on research to help homesteaders: raising vegetables for human consumption and planting trees to protect homesteads and livestock. Research has shifted over the years to meet the evolving needs of area agriculture, from “dynamic cropping systems” to “green” jet fuels.
