A $50,000 bean plant that had opened in February was hailed as the newest addition to the economy of the Red River Valley 50 years ago. The product was pinto beans. The mottled white field bean had been produced the previous year by 43 growers on 3,100 acres in Polk, Marshall, Walsh and Grand Forks counties.
