Region faces 'critical' fire weather conditions this afternoon; large waves likely on Devils Lake, Red Lakes, Lake of the Woods

The National Weather Service says the combination of dry and windy conditions this afternoon will create "critical fire weather conditions," prompting it to issue a red flag warning from noon to 8 tonight across eastern North Dakota into northwest and west-central Minnesota. The same strong winds will create large waves, especially on the region's lakes, possibly causing traffic hazards in the Devils Lake area.
