“And now,” as Paul Harvey used to say, “here’s the rest of the story.” American Crystal Sugar’s board does not deserve the entire fault for the ill-conceived action against the 1,300 union workers. Bill Hejl, a North Dakota farmer and board of directors member, has stated, “The farmers who own American Crystal Sugar thought long and hard about the lockout, and we understand and support it because we have $400 to $500 million invested in this year’s crop to be harvested.”
