WEATHER: Heat index peaks at mid-90s in Grand Forks, then slips

The heat index in Grand Forks just before noon Monday was 96, meaning it felt like 96 degrees, based on the combination of 89 degrees in actual air temperature and 57 percent humidity, according to the National Weather Service office in Grand Forks. But that's where it apparently will top out, as the heat index - forecast early Monday to reach into the 100s Monday afternoon - declined to 90 by 4 p.m.
