For the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America -- and other Protestant churches -- more churches with different backgrounds and races are needed. But getting diverse people into the same church is often not that easy. Minnesota has the largest number of ELCA members of any state, with close to 800,000 baptized members. Nationwide, the ELCA has nearly 4.5 million members. Only about 3 percent are people of color.Word count: 784
