Tales from the hunt: Young woman's elk hunt ends with fast success

Daughter Mindy and I went out early the morning of Oct. 17 on a preliminary elk hunt to get acquainted with the hunting area (E1) in northeastern North Dakota. She had a once-in-a-lifetime elk tag (her tag was for a cow), and the main season was to end Oct. 30. Since she just got her cast off (a broken ankle) earlier in October, we had not had an opportunity to go out before that weekend.
