Veterans treasure 164th reunion for the 65th time in Valley City

Sixty-seven years ago, at age 18, Horace Nearhood was drafted into the 164th Infantry Regiment – a unit of North Dakota’s National Guard – and shipped out to the Pacific to fight. Nearhood, now 86 and retired, did the same thing he’s done once a year for the past three decades: drove 950 miles from his home in Toledo, Ohio, to Valley City for the 164th’s annual reunion to see old comrades in arms.Word count: 518
