Corn moves past ‘knee-high by the Fourth of July’

Corn should be “knee-high by the Fourth of July” in order to make a crop, according to the old saying that seems to have been quoted by farmers since the Fourth of July became a holiday. But current plant varieties and farming practices make it just another old saying.
