ALWAYS IN SEASON: Owl this year’s representative Christmas bird

Last week’s column suggested some birds that are representative of Christmas: the Christmas goose, for dinner; the partridge in a pear tree, for caroling; and the northern cardinal, as a kind of fixture on Christmas greeting cards. Last week’s Christmas bird count in Grand Forks suggested another candidate, the short-eared owl.
