More sulfates from Devils Lake water could force new Fargo treatment plant

Increasing the discharge of water from Devils Lake into the Sheyenne River could raise sulfate levels high enough that Fargo might eventually need to install $45 million in water treatment equipment, city officials said this week. Sulfates are a natural laxative and can cause diarrhea in people not used to high levels in their water, officials said.Word count: 422
