UND conference highlights successes, challenges for American Indian health care

The nation’s health care safety net for American Indians has scored some great successes, a top Indian Health Service official said in Grand Forks Friday, including reduced mortality rates for many diseases and lower infant mortality rates due to better prenatal care and improved water and sanitation systems. But Indian mortality rates for many diseases remain significantly higher than for the population as a whole.
