So far, so good: Spiny water fleas have had little impact on Lake of the Woods

An invasive species, spiny water fleas first were reported in the Rainy River watershed in the summer of 2006, when a fisherman found them balled up on his line in Rainy Lake. The critters quickly made their way down the Rainy River, and the DNR in the spring of 2007 declared Lake of the Woods, Rainy River and other lakes and rivers in the watershed as infested.
