Community support helped Williston land Miss N.D.

A history of the first 60 years of the pageant says the Disabled American Veterans of Bismarck sponsored the first Miss America state preliminary that produced Kitty Page Tomkinson, Miss Bismarck, as the first Miss North Dakota to compete nationally. Bismarck held the event for the next 30 years until it moved to Minot.
