NORTH DAKOTA: Senate, governor hope student aid is restored

This was the legislative session some lawmakers and Gov. John Hoeven thought would be a watershed event in helping North Dakotans afford college and boosting the state’s educated work force. The nearly $40 million in aid for 11,000 financially needy students that Hoeven proposed during his re-election campaign last year, as well as much of the $4 million for merit scholarships proposed by a legislative study committee have been cut way back.
