DARREL KOEHLER: Easter lilies and other holiday blooms

Each season has its special flower. When we think of Thanksgiving, we envision mums in earth tones. Christmas means poinsettias. For Easter, we think of elegant white, fragrant lilies. Lilies have a long, rich history as well as having lots of colorful relatives including Asiatic or Oriental lilies, onions and tulips, to name but a few. The Madonna lily has been in cultivation for 3,000 years and is thought to be subject of the famous biblical quote, “Consider the lilies of the field…”
