Where oil tax money goes

- Oil tax structure: North Dakota has two primary taxes on oil, a 5 percent production tax and a 6.5 percent extraction tax. Both are applied to the oil’s value when it is pumped. They have raised $689.2 million from July 1, 2007 — when the state’s current two-year budget period began — through Feb. 28, 2009.
