Hope Fuglesten, 12, battles spina bifida

For every 10 breaths we take, Hope Fuglesten takes 40. “It’s like she’s running a marathon and never stopping, even when she’s asleep.” That’s how one doctor has described the condition of 12-year-old Hope, from Buxton, N.D., who suffers from spina bifida, a birth defect in which the bones of the spine do not form properly around the spinal cord.
