AUTOMOTIVE Q AND A: Emissions test failure points to several possible causes

Q. I'm having trouble getting my Aerostar work van to pass the smog inspection. It tested at 175PPM for hydrocarbons and the limit is 125. I changed the spark plugs and had it retested - this time it came in at 150PPM. The other smog gases passed easily, relative to their limits. What should I do next? The smog tech said it might be the oxygen sensor causing this. Do you agree?
