ANN BAILEY: Newspapers remain essential part of our lives

Besides the altruistic reasons for speaking to classes about writing and newspapers I have another, perhaps more selfish one: I want to do my part to promote the industry in which I work. I believe strongly in the value of newspapers and hope they remain an essential part of Americans’ daily lives. I know that I might be swimming against the current because there has been much written about the demise of the newspaper industry and the fact that few people these days have interested in reading the printed word.
