FACES AND PLACES: Helen Corlew enjoys dog sledding for pleasure and passing on her knowledge to others

Corlew began dog sledding about 10 years ago after her golden retriever died. She and her husband, Robert Newman, decided to replace their pet with dogs more suited to northern climates, so they bought an Alaskan malamute and a Samoyed. “We fell in love with those breeds.” But Corlew, who snow-shoed while her husband skijored with the dogs, couldn’t keep up. She bought a small sled and started dog sleding.
