MLB: Papelbon agrees to $6.25M deal with Red Sox

BOSTON — All-Star closer Jonathan Papelbon took a one-year deal to avoid arbitration. He could be in the same position next year. The Boston Red Sox right-hander agreed today to a contract worth $6.25 million, but he didn’t get follow teammates Dustin Pedroia and Kevin Youkilis in agreeing to a long-term deal.
