S.D. Secretary of State Gant warns donors to 'Check out the Charity' before you write the check

South Dakota Secretary of State Jason Gant says people who are thinking about donating money in the wake of the deadly earthquake and tsunami in Japan should first “check out the charity,” and make sure that they are reputable and registered to do business in South Dakota. “Our office maintains an on-line list of those non-profit organizations that are registered to conduct business in our state. Both non-profit and for-profit corporations must be registered with the Secretary of State's office. “
