Heidepriem: Cut size of government to give more to education

The state can provide more money for education by cutting the size of government and making other changes to address a budget deficit that’s “nearing the strangulation point,” Democratic governor candidate Scott Heidepriem said Wednesday.
He repeated what has become a campaign theme: state government has grown at the same time the percentage of the state budget devoted to K-12 education has decreased during the eight years of Republican Gov. Mike Rounds and Lt. Gov. Dennis Daugaard.
