Johnson takes time out for NBA Finals trip

Published 06/19/2010, The Daily Republic

Dusty Johnson never does things like this. Johnson, the chairman of the South Dakota Public Utilities Commission, is a Mitchell resident who grew up a diehard Boston Celtics fan. He began loving professional basketball when he and his friends would watch players like Larry Bird and Kevin McHale throughout the 1980s. And when this year’s version of the Celtics took a 3-0 lead over the Orlando Magic in the Eastern Conference Finals and looked destined for another trip to the NBA Finals, Johnson and his friends started thinking. After a few phone calls between Johnson and a pair of high school friends — and fellow Celtics’ faithful — Clay Cudmore and Scott Kennedy, the trip was planned. Johnson was going to TD Garden in Boston for Game 5 of the NBA Finals between his beloved Celtics and their biggest rival, the Los Angeles Lakers.
