PIERRE — South Dakota’s campaign for governor began in earnest Wednesday, just hours after Lt. Gov. Dennis Daugaard claimed the Republican nomination. But the state’s political history suggests Democrat Scott Heidepriem faces a tough fight in a GOP-dominated state.
