Flu hits local schools

Student absenteeism spiked dramatically Thursday in Mitchell when 330 students were out due to illness.
That’s nearly 14 percent of the district’s 2,400 students, who were afflicted mostly with flu-like symptoms such as fever, cough, upset stomach and vomiting.
Hardest hit was Mitchell Middle School, where nearly one-quarter of the student population was ill.
