Citizens and city officials learned valuable lessons, we hope

In a letter to the editor in last week’s Pine Journal, resident Clarence Badger wondered if the city had learned a lesson from the landfill issue – a proposed industrial landfill near the Hilltop soccer fields that will occupy 42 acres of a 260-acre site now occupied by gravel pits, a lumber yard and a previous landfill used for construction and demolition debris. There were several lessons our elected officials may have gleaned from the experience of the past eight months, in addition to a vast amount of practical knowledge pertaining to landfills.
