Reader’s view: Don’t let copper-nickel mining destroy our most valuable resource

Coal ash spewing into the Dan River in North Carolina, chemicals polluting the Elk River and the water supply for thousands of West Virginia residents, and severe water shortages in California: All of these very recent water crises only serve to define the value of clean water. Residents of these states are realizing that the amount of potable water — water fit for human consumption — is indeed a finite resource.
