Reader’s view: PolyMet’s copper is better left untouched in the ground

At the PolyMet public hearing I learned Minnesota law demands that when a mine is mined out the area must be left maintenance-free. The PolyMet environmental impact statement explains that the mine area, when mined out, will require maintenance and water treatment for 500 years. Unless you do not understand English, these two statements are just not compatible. This should be the end of this discussion.
