Local view: WWII mystery remains unsolved

Lt. Arthur Schumacher of the U.S. Army Air Force was a missing-in-action airman to his family for 69 years. We tried to unravel the mystery of his disappearance in a B-24 bomber lost in the South Pacific on Aug. 28, 1944. His brothers, Arne and John Schumacher, had their inquiries of the government met with “classified” at every turn while trying to find out what happened.
