Field reports: Lake Superior ice paves way to sea caves

For the first time since 2009, park officials at Apostle Islands National Lakeshore say ice conditions on Lake Superior now allow over-ice travel to the park’s mainland sea caves. In a news release Wednesday, park officials said colder-than-normal temperatures have created an early freeze-up of the waters around the Apostle Islands this year. That includes the area along the mainland coast featuring some of the most spectacular cliffs and sea caves found on the Great Lakes.Word count: 438
