Candidate's view: Healthy school system the cornerstone of community

While door-knocking recently, I introduced myself to a woman who responded with a comment about how she knew who I was. She said I was an activist for education in our community. She called her grandson over to meet me and explained to him the importance of my advocating for education. Prior to this conversation, I never really thought of myself as an activist. To me, I was just another concerned citizen working toward the good of our public education system. The more I thought about our conversation, the more I recognized she was right. Activism has been defined as vigorous action in pursuing a social end.Word count: 407
