Reader's view: Dreams falling into bureaucratic tax abyss

In 1977 when I was 22, my brothers and I started paying property taxes on a five-acre empty lot on Lake Vermilion; the bill totaled $64.30. Consumer Price Index increases indicate we should be paying 291 percent more now, or $251.55. However, 36 years later, and without any improvements to the lot, the taxes have risen much higher, to $1,600.84.
