Review: ‘Godspell’ full of pleasant surprises

Back in the day, “Godspell” often was dismissed as a Sunday School confection compared to the operatic “Jesus Christ Superstar.” But the proper comparison lies between “Godspell” and the “Good News for Modern Man” translation of the New Testament released in 1966. Both works have at their heart the idea of dynamic equivalence, translating Scripture “thought for thought” rather than “word for word.”Word count: 582
