Reader’s view: Protect Duluth’s beauty with strong sign code

City Council, please don’t water down the proposed sign code (“Duluth City Council steps back from stringent sign code,” Feb. 26). People come to Duluth, one of the loveliest cities in Minnesota, because of its natural beauty. Was it only a year ago the city saved 50 trees from a sign on Central Entrance? Is it possible that beautifying the area might even attract businesses and shoppers? I depress myself going up that ugly hill to the ugly malls and certainly have never gone into a store and spent my money because of its signage.
