Album review: On debut album, Warren is the problem

Published 12/06/2012, Duluth News Tribune

The cover of James Warren’s latest release is a stark, simple image on a white background: a black ’80s-style boombox wearing a giant pair of old-school headphones. At first glance, it seems like a sort of generic clip-art “music contained herein” message, but if you look at it too long, your brain starts to twitch. Why is that pair of headphones so big? Or, why is the boombox so tiny? Is the boombox listening to the headphones? If so, are the headphones plugged into the boombox? What is the message here? What am I looking at?
