First-graders fish to learn

Students in Mary Jo Taintor’s first-grade class at Kelley Elementary School in Silver Bay participated in a fall fishing trip to practice fishing techniques and math skills. The trip has been a first-grade tradition since 2009 when the Department of Natural Resources Minnesota Aqua-Pay it Forward program awarded 24 fishing poles, a tackle box, tackle and life jackets to Taintor.Word count: 132
