The humble beginnings to Duluth’s Memorial Day observances

At Duluth’s first Decoration Day, a little more than 200 people gathered in the area that is now the canal in Canal Park and walked with a trio of fife and drum players into Park Point and to the cemetery. There was an orator, the “Declaration of Independence” was read and residents sang patriotic songs.
