Reader's view: Minnesota Power must act now to lower emissions

Kudos to Minnesota Power for finally putting in writing that they want to change their coal-burning ways and eventually use more wind and hydro power (“Minnesota Power deal with Manitoba Hydro approved,” Feb. 9). While they have released news briefs on this subject, they have yet to outline a plan on when these tasks will be accomplished by the looming 2015 deadline. A new federal law states that coal plants must reduce mercury emissions 90 percent by 2015.Word count: 271
