1. St. Mark’s African Methodist Episcopal Church. Duluth’s chapter of the NAACP was born here shortly after the lynchings in 1920. A year later, in March, W.E.B. DuBois, the founder of the NAACP, spoke at the historic church that was built at the corner of Sixth Street and Fifth Avenue in 1913. The church was formed in 1887.
