In the depth of the Great Recession, with millions still unemployed and one war down, one more to go , it’s tough to come up with a traditional “Best of 2011” column for the year’s end. But I’m going to try to take the advice of my late friend Maryhelen Ryan, who was a co-worker at the inner-city high school where I taught back when gangsters and incorrigibles roamed the halls.Word count: 669
