For most of my commute that morning, I was oblivious to anything beyond the cars jockeying on the Massachusetts Turnpike and Aretha Franklin on the CD. I hadn’t tuned into the news yet and only did at 10 a.m. — three minutes from the Boston Herald parking lot — for the top-of-the-hour report.
